Georg Marcgraf in Dutch Brazil, Leiden, 23 September - symposium and exhibition
On the occasion of the 400th birthday of the multifacetes scholar and explorer Gerog Marcgraf (1610-1644), Museum Boerhaave and Leiden University organize a symposium on September 23rd by the title ‘Georg Marcgraf in Dutch Brazil’. The symposium will be held at the Leiden University Library and Museum Boerhaave from 9.30 until 15.30. Afterwards at 16:00 the Teyler professor Frans van Lunteren will deliver in Museum Boerhaave a public lecture titled ‘Georg Marcgraf and the seventeenth-century scientific revolution’, followed at 16:45 by the official opening of the exhibition ‘Georg Marcgraf: explorer in Dutch Brazil’.
