The Colony of New Netherland and other titles on 17th century Dutch America - publications

During 2009 a series of new books on the Dutch period in New Netherland (North America) written by the author Jaap Jacobs were published. In ‘The Colony of New Netherland: A Dutch Settlement in Seventeenth-Century America’ Jacobs offers a comprehensive history of Holland’s colony along the Hudson River, from the first trading voyages in the 1610s to 1674, when the Dutch ceded the colony to the English. In ‘Indianenverhalen’ (Indian Tales), another book written by Jacobs together with K. Waterman and C. Gehring, the earliest descriptions of the Indians living along the Hudson river are published. By the same author this year appeared the book (in Dutch) ‘Pieter Stuyvesant. Een levensschets’ and ‘Op zoek naar Nederlands New York. Een historisch reisboek’ an historical reading book and travel guide in one, that makes the Holland colony with its windmills and churches visible again.
